The Captain's Daughter ~ Book Review

The Captain’s Daughter
Author: Jennifer Delamere
Publisher: Bethany House (a division of Baker Publishing Group)

When I’m traveling through the adventure that an author is taking me on with their story line, I enjoy a flowing read. Stories that help envision all that is happening in the character’s world as if I’m there right along with them. The Captain’s Daughter doesn’t disappoint. The character story lines are active and easy to immerse oneself in the story. When reading, a good story helps the mind’s eye view as if not only reading, but watching the story unfold.
It starts with a background of three sisters who have lost their parents and end up in an orphanage. Introductions to the sisters show that they have been brought up well bred, with manners, and a true faith in God. The question as you continue the book is, will that upbringing bode well for one of the sisters, Rosalyn, who finds herself in the middle of trouble. She has left the orphanage only to find a few years later that life can dish out some harsh lessons.
Rosalyn finds herself on the run from the people who employed her, and she thought was a safe place. During her escape, she is thrust into somewhat more serious problems because her trust in people make her blind to the cruelties of life. She is thrust into a large city where she doesn’t know anyone nor her way around the city at all. Should she trust a stranger who tries to help. Only time will tell, and will her faith be enough to guide her in the right directions.
The story line also goes parallel with Nate’s story. His injury when in service for his country, a mistake that plagues him, and decisions he is trying to make. When he meets Rosalyn, will her circumstances interfere with where life is leading him? The only way to find out is to read the book.
Trying to give no spoilers, I can just say this book is a good, fun read that is enjoyed to the end with the ups and downs of the characters. The theater parts are well written and interesting. The characters that the author has chosen for this book are a delight. I like how the author has gently intertwined Rosalyn and the other character’s faith in the story line.
As with all good books that I read, I’m usually sad to say by to the characters.
Because it is just the kind of genre that I like to read, I am giving this book 5 stars. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did. Once picked up, it is hard to put it down without reading right to the ending.

Warm-Hearted Victorian Romance Brings 1880s London to Life
When a series of circumstances beyond her control leave Rosalyn Bernay alone and penniless in London, she chances upon a job backstage at a theater which is presenting the most popular show in London. A talented musician and singer, she feels immediately at home and soon becomes enthralled with the idea of pursuing a career on the stage.
An injury during a skirmish in India has forced Nate Moran out of the army until he recovers. Filling his time at a stable of horses for hire in London, he has also spent the past two months working nights as a stagehand, filling in for his injured brother. Although he’s glad he can help his family through a tough time, he is counting the days until he can rejoin his regiment. London holds bitter memories for him that he is anxious to escape.
